About This Italian Chocolate Dessert

This easy no cook chocolate ricotta dessert is like a smooth and creamy chocolate mousse and what I like to make with leftover ricotta that I have after making ricotta gnocchi or my ricotta lemon cake. It is an effortless dessert that tastes so amazing and takes only minutes to make. How can you not want to make and eat this?

With just simple ingredients, a little whipping up in a food processor, this dessert is ready. Try it out and see why I love it so much!

Ingredients

Peach cake ingredients including: flour, sugar, peaches, salt, butter, eggs and baking powder.
  • Dutch Process Cocoa Powder: If you do not have this, you can use regular cocoa powder.
  • Whole Milk Ricotta Cheese
  • Honey: I like to use mild wildflower honey so the honey flavor does not overpower the chocolate.
  • Kosher Salt
  • Vanilla Extract

How To Make Whipped Ricotta With Chocolate

  • Mix: Add all of the ingredients to a food processor and mix on medium speed until smooth and creamy. It is just like making my lemon ricotta dip.
  • Taste: Taste for any additional honey that is needed. If you want it sweeter, add a little more honey then blend again.
  • Refrigerate: You can eat this right away or refrigerate it until fully chilled. It doesn't get too much thicker with refrigeration, just cooler 🙂

Recipe Faqs

Can you substitute low fat ricotta for whole milk ricotta?

Whole milk ricotta adds a creamy texture that you cannot get from low fat ricotta. I would not recommend substituting.

Can you make this with another sweetener?

Yes. Feel free to use agave nectar, sugar or any other sweetener in a 1:1 ratio.

Can I make the whipped ricotta thicker?

Yes. If you prefer an even thicker whipped ricotta, strain the ricotta in a cheesecloth overnight then proceed with the blending in the recipe.

Can you make whipped ricotta in a blender?

Yes you can. If you do this, just make sure to scrape down the sides of the blender to make sure all of the ingredients are mixed well.

Recipe Variations

  • Slather this chocolate ricotta on toast!
  • Add a little cinnamon. Chocolate and cinnamon are great together.
  • Use regular cocoa powder. If the Dutch processed cocoa powder is too much for you, feel free to use regular cocoa powder.
  • Add more chocolate: There are many who welcome even more chocolate goodness in their desserts so feel free to fold in some mini chocolate chips before chilling.
  • Add your own twist: Add a little Kahlua, espresso or your own favorite flavors to this recipe.
  • Use cottage cheese: If you are out of ricotta and want to make this, you can also use cottage cheese.

Storing

I like to store my whipped chocolate ricotta in leftover yogurt jars that I have rinsed and saved. I use plastic wrap to cover the tops and refrigerate them for up to one week. They make the perfect serving size. You can also use a glass container with a lid.
